It was an extremely interesting week at New York as Ripple hosted a VIP gathering tagged as ‘XRP Community Night’ during the Blockchain week in New York City on May 15th, especially because of people who were a part of this including Snoop Dogg, the American rapper and the CEO of FedEx Frederick Smith.
Ripple had its XRP announcements on Twitter weeks ago where contests were run for participants who competed for the “Twitter Trivia” and “Make the Meme” on 26th April and May 2nd, respectively. More than seven thousand people turned up for the show.
Ripple stated that the “special night” was dedicated to thank those who have helped the company develop the XRP Ledger and platforms like xRapid who have been couching on Ripple’s many benefits and “spreading the good word”. Last night at the XRP event, enthusiasts from the Ripple community were served champagne and Snoop Dogg successfully made headlines.
This was not the very first instance of showbiz as Lionel Richie took the stage in a Super Bowl television Advertisement for Bitcoin Futures and reality TV icon Paris Hilton endorsing ICO LydianCoin in 2017.
Never mind all the controversies regarding the Ripple’s decision of selecting Snoop Dogg to perform, the XRP community managed to have all the fun. Snoop Dogg has shown support to the crypto sector since 2013 and it should not come about as a surprise that his presence caused the entire ‘ripple’ this morning.
Claire, the Head of the Community at Ripple tweeted about the night:
“The XRP Community Night is everything I dreamed it would be. People from across the community and across the world coming together to celebrate something bigger than each of us. Cheers to the dream team Ripple.”
In the previous week, Ripple announced its Xpring initiative where companies are using xCurrent to test payments alongside Ripple’s proposal for a new symbol based on community requests. So, the purpose of this event was to appreciate Ripple that has invested over $25 million in XRP to Blockchain Capital Parallel IV, LP.
It is the first fund to accept capital calls in digital, with the sole focus at blockchain development towards entrepreneurial teams who wish to build businesses using the blockchain technology. Its open-source platforms like XRP Ledger and Interledger Protocol provide opportunities to develop use cases beyond payments.
“Ripple believes in supporting the XRP Ledger and Interledger Protocol and will continue to look for opportunities to support entrepreneurs, companies, and funds that share this vision.”
XRP holds more scalable and less costly digital assets than any other leading Cryptocurrencies which bring along more transparency and faster transactions.
Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse stated:
“Whenever I hear the word ‘promotion’ it makes me cringes,” adding later that the event’s purpose was not to create a hype regarding Ripple’s XRP.”
The 46-year old rapper had nothing specific to say about digital currencies onstage. According to two Ripple representatives, Snoop Dogg was paid to perform at the event, but that did not stop him from enjoying himself while the crowd rapped to his songs.
On the contrary, Jack Dorsey, the Chief Executive Officer of Twitter Inc. spoke to the crowd addressing his concerns:
“The internet deserves a native currency; it will have a native currency. I don’t know if it’ll be Bitcoin or not, but I hope it will be.”
